A Bold Summer Wedding At Oliva on the Hill
Ok, I’m going to be honest; I’m starting to feel like a broken record with my blog posts recently. Today’s feature wedding is a tale as old as time… kidding. It’s the tale of 2020: Boy meets girl. They fall in love. They get engaged and start planning their dream wedding. They pick the perfect date, at the perfect venue, and then a global pandemic ruins their plans. Someday there will be rom coms about this on Netflix, but I doubt anyone who actually had a wedding (or worked in the industry) during the pandemic will be able to watch them. Anyway, I’m sorry if the theme of the blog has become “pandemic wedding pivots”, but that’s the reality of our industry the past year, and as much as I would like to gloss over it all, the fact of the matter is that none of last years weddings happened the way they were planned. But that doesn’t mean they weren’t beautiful and perfect, it was just in a different way than expected! After all, at the end of the day the most important part is saying “I do!” and being married to the love of your life, and our fabulous clients all seemed to embody that sentiment. So I guess really, the blog theme has become “even if everything single thing about your wedding has to change, we will still make it fabulous!”
Alicia and Jacob were planning a spring wedding at the Botanical Garden, but when MOBOT cancelled all scheduled events, the date and location had to be changed. Luckily their caterer, Catering St. Louis, owns Oliva on the Hill and the party was able to be moved to this lovely, intimate venue. Sandra worked with Alicia (who was planning from out of state) and her mom to design colorful, garden inspired arrangements to brighten the indoor dining space, and bouquets to compliment the lavender bridesmaids dresses. The floral designs included bold purple anemones, soft peach dahlias and garden roses and vibrant yellow spray roses and ranunculus, creating the perfect summer palette. After so many cancelled events, Alicia’s stunning bold bouquet was a breath of fresh air around the studio.
The flower girls and dogs are fighting for cutest members of the wedding party. I think it’s a tie.
I know rain is NOT what any bride wants on her wedding day, especially after everything else, but I do love a good umbrella shot!
And what is it about asking groomsmen to hold a bouquet that ALWAYS results in a photo like this?! Classic.
One last bouquet closeup. Sorry, not at all sorry…
The vine-covered patio at Oliva on the Hill set the stage for the ceremony, and the rain even stopped while Alicia and Jacob said their vows!
Guests moved inside for dinner, where colorful arrangements and feasting tables set an intimate tone for the evening.
How cute is the dog silhouette cake topper?!
Alicia & Jacob, we are so thrilled to have been a part of your day!!
